Generally speaking, Invisalign can correct crowding. Some factors to consider are: extent of crowding and vertical and horizontal components of your bite. For example, if you are very crowded on the lowers, but your upper teeth cover your lowers completely, you will never be able to eliminate your crowding until the vertical component is corrected. You also need to take into account your bite. Straight teeth does not necessarily mean a good bite.

Through Invisalign, you may need the following: dental expansion, extractions of teeth, going in between the teeth and reducing width. Attachments can greatly help. They allow the aligners to apply more force to your teeth.

The cost and length of treatment will vary greatly from patient to patient.

A proper diagnosis is critical when planning your Invisalign treatment, so you should see an dentist for a consultation.

Hi Sarah,

Invisalign works just as efficiently as any other types of braces for crowding. They have a new product called Invisalign Teen. Only certified dentists can provide that treatment. Most dentists will do a complimentary consultation for you and depending on the complexity of your particular case will recommend the extent of the Invisalign treatment!

Kind Regards

The cost will vary depending on the severity of the crowding and hence the length of the treatment. Also the advertised price may or may not include things such as refinement, retainers or whitening gel.

It is well known that some dentists will try to cut corners to keep the price down. In some cases dentists do not provide the correct retainers or will prescribe the wrong form of treatment, ie. prescribing anterior treatment when full mouth treatment would be more beneficial.

My advice is always to have 2 or more consultations so you can make a more informed decision as to the most suitable treatment for you.

Don't just take the cheapest offer, cosmetic treatment is something that needs to be done with care and like most things in life you tend to get what you pay for!

There are no reasons why you can't use Invisalign whilst pregnant. Some patients find that during the early stages of pregnancy the aligners can contribute to morning sickness. This may make wearing the aligners more difficult at times.

If you are planning on whitening your teeth it is advisable to wait till after your pregnancy.

There are 3 ways of creating space.

1.Tooth extraction

2.Expansion

3. Iterproximal Reduction (recontouring or shaving between th teeth)

Our preferred method is expansion, however, some teeth, because of there shape, lend themselves well to shaving, this can sometimes improve the proportions of the teeth. However, if the teeth are already narrow, this should not be done.

It could be that one dentist is factoring in the possible need for refinement and the other is going to suprise you after 6 months with some extra aligners!

It is rare that a treatment will be 100% complete after 6 months and it is common to have to have some refinement aligners.

It may be that the two Doctors you saw have varying levels of expertise at predicting the length of the treatment. My advice would be to have a 3rd consultation and see if there is any correlation between the various consultations. It is always wise with Cosmetic Treatment to have several consultations, it is not something you should jump into unless you are fully informed of all the facts. Do not take the cheapest offer! Cosmetic Treatment is not something you should try to do on the cheap!

I don't know where you live, but you should be able to search for Invisalign dentists in your area. They are listed on the website in order of experience. I would take a couple of consultations to get a feel for the dentists then pick the dentist you are most comfortable with.

If you are in the London area I would be happy to see you for a complimentary consultation.

Do your research. Look at as many reviews as possible. You should always shop around when considering cosmetic surgery. Speak to someone that has had the treatment before. Go on recommendation. The link below might help.

It sounds like you have some complex problems and my first piece of advice is that you arrange a consultation with an expert nearby to examine your bite, TMJ and bruxism to suggest what options are available to you.
This is definitely not a case where I am going to make an 'online diagnosis' of what can best help you.
I can tell you that we are using invisalign more and more to treat complex corrections of the ways the jaws and teeth meet. More and more people are looking to invisalign to correct the fundamental ways that teeth bite as well as the cosmetic issues of a straight smile.
One thing is certain and that is you need more in depth consultation to give you some answers and a suggested resolution to your problems.
If me or the team at theinvisalignguide can help in this please let us know.
Hi Louise.

It is a requirement that a dentist offering invisalign has undergone accreditation from invisalign and there name would then appear on the invisalign website. You can ask to see a dentist at the practice who has been certified by invisalign or you can move your case to any other invisalign dentist in the UK or abroad if need be by asking for a case transfer form from the original practice.
My experience with the Inman aligner is that it is such a mouth full that patients do not warm to it especially. We find we can achieve like for like results as far as expansion is concerned. The most important thing is patient compliance and patients are a lot more likely to wear the Invisalign aligner over the the inman aligner due to it being more comfortable.

There are 3 ways of creating space.

1.tooth extraction

2.posterior expansion

3.Interproximal stripping

Our preferred method is posterior expansion. Interproximal stripping is a last resort and is not something we do very often.

There have been no known reaction to the Invisalign aligners. I don't believe those patients Vitamin D levels are linked to wearing Invisalign aligners. Maybe they need to get in the sunshine more!

I have recently had a quote for Invisalign braces and I have a few questions.

One is the total cost of treatment is quoted as £5000. Is this dentist specific - i.e. if I shop around can I get it done cheaper?

The next question is when I went for the consultation, the dentist said after the treatment I would need to wear a retainer for the rest of my life. Is this really the case?

The final question is, the dentist informed me she would not need to take any teeth out but use a 0.5mm saw type thing to gain room between teeth. Is this not bad for the enamel?

Hope you are able to help!!

You can correct overbite with Invisalign, even on teeth that are crowned. You do require xrays. Invisalign can be carried out when pregnant but x rays are not advisable when pregnant, so unless you have a large x ray less than 2 years old. I would wait until after your pregnancy.

If your dentist believes that he is only as good as his last case then he will be as motivated as you to get a perfect result.

Even though you have a dental implant it may be possible to still straighten the rest of your teeth. The implant is fused to the jaw bone and therefore will not move however it would be advisable to try to limit the pressure on this area during treatment. I would certainly advise a consultation with an Invisalign doctor who has a great deal of experience with the system and also with treating similar cases to yours. Straightening your teeth may carry a slight increase in risk of damage to the implant which you will need to decide is acceptable or not.

That is a very good question and one which I am very passionate about.

I recently attended the G3 invisalign course in London (invisalign are updating their software, treatment techniques, etc) and was wondering the same thing as you. Would I be a better invisalign dentist if I had specific orthodontic training?

As the course unfolded I came to a conclusion which was that invisalign is now a science unto itself.

Yes, it is based on orthodontic principles, but the tools now employed via the software and attachments are so evolved that to be a good invisalign dentist I believe you just need time in the field.

So, personally my suggestion is not that you need your invisalign dentist to have an MOrth, as this doesn't equate to being any good at invisalign, rather that he has a wealth of experience in invisalign.

And you can tell this by his platinum level, and even better if he has his 250+ badge (which means they've done over 250 cases).

Invisalign is particularly good at treating 'goofy' teeth as the aligners are perfectly designed to retract teeth and pull them back into a neater smile shape.

Costs vary depending on how 'goofy' the teeth are and how long the case might take, and therefore how many visits to the dentist you might need.

At our practice prices start at £2700 for a simple case and go up to £3700 for a more complex case.
Hello Amanda,

We would be able to correct all of the issues you mentioned. Invisalign braces and conventional braces will work just as well, however, the Invisalign braces rely on your compliance and remembering to wear them whereas fixed braces are in permanently and you can't remove them.

Cost wise if anything fixed braces tend to be more expensive.

Hello Jennifer,

There are 3 ways of creating space when moving teeth. One is extracting teeth, but it is not something we do very often. The other is to smooth between certain teeth (a last resort). Our preferred method it to expand the arch and create space that way.

The best thing to do is ask your Invisalign dentist to request Invisalign expand the arch as much as possible. Only if you still require space after that should you consider smoothing between the teeth. I hope this helps.

It is difficult to say for sure without seeing you in person but currently the average price for Invisalign is approx £3000. This does obviously vary from dentist to dentist depending on location and level of experience. The best thing to do is to book an appointment with your chosen Invisalign Dentist and take advantage of the Free Consultations that are generally available.

Hello Laura,

It is difficult for me to comment without seeing you. However, it is possible to reduce an overbite with Invisalign. The most important thing with Invisalign is compliance and making sure you wear them as much as possible. With fixed braces, obviously you cant take them out so they are working 24 hours a day.

Invisalign would fit over your veneers as if they are normal teeth.

Invisalign works very well at closing gaps, I would advise that you start treatment sooner rather than later as the larger the gap gets the longer it will take to close it again using orthodontics. After closing the gap you could have a retainer fixed to the back of your teeth to stop it opeing up again.

Invisalign deals that seem to good to be true often are! Invisalign charge a set fee for the aligners so if the dentist is doing the treatment very cheaply they may have to cut down on the amount of time they can spend on a case which often leads to a poor outcome.
If your dentist wont make a refinement set of aligners you may have to see another dental practice to have this done. Some dental practices offering cut price invisalign charge additional fees for a set of refinement aligners.
hi, I was wondering whether invisalign would be a valid choice of brace for overbite sufferers. This came about as a child as I chewed on a dummy to much and it has now left me with overbitten , with goofy teeth. I would really like to get these sorted out as soon as possible and really like the idea of invisalign as they are just so unnoticeable and wouldn’t impede on my daily life but could potentially improve it afterwards.

Any help you can give would be great thanks for your time.

Hi there! It would be best if you had a consultation with an Invisalign providing dentist to assess if you would be a suitable candidate as each individuals circumstances vary. From this you will be able to obtain a computerised treatment plan which will show you step by step what happens next, this will also help you visualise the result and realise the total treatment time. Thankyou, many regards.

Hi Doctor,

my friend has recently started wearing Invisalign and i can’t get over how good they look and would really like a pair. However I am not connection with a private dentist at the moment and I believe invisalign is only involved with private practitioners. My question is how much is the expected cost of a usual invisalign case and do most practices offer payment plans. I believe I can get the money together but obviously not all at once. I would really like this treatment pretty soon and seeing the transformation they’re casting on my friend’s teeth has sealed the deal!

thank you for any help you can give. thank you for your time and i hope you can please advice

I have a problem with my tongue, i think it’s called tongue thrusting, and it has effected my front teeth, so they kinda jut forward. I was wondering if invisalign would be a good brace for sorting this out? Also, i will probably be needing something after the treatment to stop my tongue from ruining my smile, could you tell me is there is anything like that available?

thank you

Hi
Yes if the teeth are tipped forward from your tongue thrust then yes Invisalign will work. If these is a space between the upper and lower front teeth (called an open bite) then other types of braces may be more suitable.
You are quite right that you need something after treatment to hold everything in place and prevent a relapse. These are called retainers, especially in your case when you have this habit. These may be fixed or a removable retainer or both, but you will have to try and break the habit.
Good luck

Hello,

The major differences between Invisalign and traditioanl braces are one of aesthetics. Also, there are benefits of wearing Invisalign over traditional fixed braces such as ease of cleaning the teeth.ie. it is still possible to brush and floss between the teeth. The other big difference is that fixed braces are in there all the time and are working 24 hrs a day, whereas with Invisalign we rely on the patient to wear the aligners as much as possible, ideally 22hrs a day. Invisalign is much more reliant on patient compliance to get a good result.

I hope this helps.

During the first few weeks of Invisalign we commonly see small ulcers develop usually on the insides of the lips. They are usually caused by the edges of the aligner rubbing slightly. After stage 3 or 4 this tends to go away. I sometimes recommend using a nail file to very gently smooth the edge of an aligner if a sharp edge is present. Please consult your invisalign doctor before doing this though. You are not at a higher risk of developing a dental abscess from these minor ulcers. The 2 are quite different. I hope this is useful.

It would depend on whether the Dentist had planned to carry out any adjustments to the teeth during the course of the treatment. Then there would be the issue of whether you needed any refinement and retainers at the end of the treatment.

One option is to do a case transfer to another Invisalign Dentist to finish the treatment.

Hello Patricia,

I would be very suprised if you have developed an allergy to the aligners/retainers. It is more likey that you are deficient in minerals and/or vitamins or are generally run down. I would arrange a blood test with your doctor to determine if this is the case. It could also be that you are stressed and at night you are chewing the cheeks and the tongue is rubbing on the aligners.

I hope this helps.

I am looking for the contact details of the governing body of Invisalign UK.

Sadly, I have a complaint to make; not against Invisalign, but a particular practitioner.

This dentist commenced my Invisalign treatment; however did extensive IPR on my teeth. I now have giant gaps between my teeth. I have finished my treatment plan - the gaps remain.

I now reside in Australia. If I am to get straight and gap free teeth I have to pay for treatment here. I believe is completely unreasonable as I am a very diligent person and followed my dentists instructions to the letter.

Could you please point me in the right direction. I have photo's of my teeth currently and a letter from my Australian dentist outlining his clinical opinion.

If you could respond ASAP, that would be gratefully appreciated. The treatment was meant to be completed by approximately mid 2011.

I have a permanent retainer on my bottom teeth. I need to wear invisalign predominanatly to have my top teeth straightened and to correct my overbite. My bottom teeth are fairly straight and I am hesitant to have my bottom permanent retainer removed as I feel that that is the reason why my bottom teeth have not shifted and remained straight for such a long time. Initially my dentist said that the trays could be made without having the bottom retainer removed and said that the teeth would move even with the reatiner in place. However, she recently called back and said that they can not make the trays without the bottom retainer being removed. Can you please let meknow, is it possible to get invisalign trays for my bottom teeth without having my bottom teeth permanenet retainer removed? You can search for dentists in your area on the Invisalign website. www.invisalign.co.uk

Once you find potential dentists in your area, you might want to do a bit of online or word-of-mouth research before you contact them and schedule a consultation. This, along with a face-to-face meeting, is the best way to determine which dentist is the right match for your needs. Find out if they offer a free consultation. Many dentists now offer this service.

Hi Louise,

I would be tempted to wear the aligner now you have found it. It might be tight for few days but the gaps should close up. After that, go and see you Invisalign dentist and ask for them to make spare retainers so you don't have the same problem in the future!

My name is Samantha and I am 20years old. I've had traditional metal braces in the past and had four teeth removed in the process. My overbite, unfortunately, has returned due to my wisdom teeth coming through and pushing all my teeth forward. My dentist says I can not have invisalign and will need traditional braces again due to the fact that there is no space available to move the front teeth back. He said the traditional braces would also have to be attached to a small nail that will be placed at the back of my upper jaw. I would obviously much prefer to have invisalign as it is far less invasive and sounds much less painful, so I thought I would go for a second opinion on the matter.

Thank you for your time and hoping to hear from you soon,

what is your opinion either way, as an expert, of invsialgin over clearstep? I have been online looking into these two different types of braces and I am simply torn between the cheapness of clearstep, but the obvious intricacy of invisalign design. I just need my front tooth gap closing up do you think that would really need a full course of invisalign- whether it would be worth it? or should I go for the financially cheaper option of clearstep?
thank you very much
