Hi i finished invisalign then 2 months ago i lost my retainer... i found it and since i lost it the gaps in my teeth have returned slightly... i can get my retainer back in but its painful... is it safe to do so or so I have to go back to braces? thanks

Hi Louise,   I would be tempted to wear the aligner now you have found it. It might be tight for few days but the gaps should close up. After that, go and see you Invisalign dentist and ask for them to make spare retainers so you don't have the same problem in the future!   Kind Regards   Graham

Dear Dr Tinkler, I've had traditional metal braces in the past and had four teeth removed in the process. My overbite, unfortunately, has returned due to my wisdom teeth coming through and pushing all my teeth forward. My dentist says I can not have invisalign and will need traditional braces again due to the fact that there is no space available to move the front teeth back. He said the traditional braces would also have to be attached to a small nail that will be placed at the back of my upper jaw. I would obviously much prefer to have invisalign as it is far less invasive and sounds much less painful, so I thought I would go for a second opinion on the matter. Thank you!

It is possible to correct overbite and overjet with Invisalign. Space can be achieved by moving the back teeth.   Obviously I would need to see you for a Complimentary Consulatation to be sure. A lot of my time is spent correcting 'relapse' cases where patients had braces when younger, but for whatever reason the teeth have slipped back.   Please feel free to book a complimentary consult so we can discuss your case in...

Hi there, There seems to be alot of dentists that provide Invisalign. How do I find the best Invisalign doctor for my case?

You can search for dentists in your area on the Invisalign website. www.invisalign.co.uk   Once you find potential dentists in your area, you might want to do a bit of online or word-of-mouth research before you contact them and schedule a consultation. This, along with a face-to-face meeting, is the best way to determine which dentist is the right match for your needs. Find out if they offer a free consultation....

Hi Dr could you help me I have a large overbite A front tooth missing and the othet front tooth has a verneThankyouer and the next tooth either side of the front teeth have verneers what is should be the order of treatment first Invisalign or an implant for my missing front tooth and will invisalign work over verneers thankyou

Hi. Before you invest in an implant, it is  beneficial to correct the overbite first. The better your bite feels, the better the result and success of your implant will be. Secondly, Invisalign can also move the neighbouring teeth to ensure the space for the missing tooth is ideal for implant placement. Finally Invisalign  will fit over veneers the same as a normal teeth, so no worries there.

Dear Dr Raman, I am getting married in July 2012, which means I have only 9 months before my wedding. Do I have enough time to straighten my teeth? And how long does an Invisalign treatment take?? From Lucy

Dear Lucy, Firstly, congratulations and thanks for your question! Invisalign treatment duration vary in length but generally last between 9 to 18 months. It is dependant on the complexity of the case and on the patient wearing their aligners.

Dr Raman, I have just started my Invisalign treatment. Any tips on how to clean my aligners? Jo

Dear Jo, Having been an Invisalign patient myself, I can tell you what worked for me. I would clean my aligners after every meal with a medium texture toothbrush and a 50:50 mix of cold water with mouthwash. The trick is not to use very hot water or abrasive agents which can damage the...

I am not the pstient but have a genral query. If a patient has Invisalign (lite or normal), but the praticing dentist leaves the clinic mid treatment, would it be possible to sucessfully complete the treatment yourself if you possesed the alligners? Or is it a requirement to visit a dentist to check on progress?

It would depend on whether the Dentist had planned to carry out any adjustments to the teeth during the course of the treatment. Then there would be the issue of whether you needed any refinement and retainers at the end of the treatment.   One option is to do a case transfer to another Invisalign Dentist to finish the treatment.   I hope this help.   Graham

i have recently started wearing invisalign braces and have noticed a few ulcers popping up here and there, i’ve been using bonjela but it has really be that effective what would you recommend and am I at risk of developing an abscess? thank you

During the first few weeks of Invisalign we commonly see small ulcers develop usually on the insides of the lips. They are usually caused by the edges of the aligner rubbing slightly. After stage 3 or 4 this tends to go away. I sometimes recommend using a nail file to very gently smooth the edge of an aligner if a sharp edge is present. Please consult your invisalign doctor before doing this though. You are not at a higher risk of developing a dental abscess from these minor ulcers. The...

I would like to know the major difference between invisisble orthodontics and traditional orthodontics

Hello,   The major differences between Invisalign and traditioanl braces are one of aesthetics. Also, there are benefits of wearing Invisalign over traditional fixed braces such as ease of cleaning the teeth.ie. it is still possible to brush and floss between the teeth. The other big difference is that fixed braces are in there all the time and are working 24 hrs a day, whereas with Invisalign we rely on the patient to wear the aligners as much as possible,...
