I'll be 15 in June and my teeth aren't really bad, they are just crowded. Is Invisalign suitable for someone my age?  Sarah

Hi Sarah, Invisalign works just as efficiently as any other types of braces for crowding. They have a new product called Invisalign Teen. Only certified dentists can provide that treatment. Most dentists will do a complimentary consultation for you and depending on the complexity of your particular case will recommend the extent of the Invisalign treatment!   Kind Regards   Dr Graham Tinkler

Why is there such a variation in prices between dentists?

The cost will vary depending on the severity of the crowding and hence the length of the treatment. Also the advertised price may or may not include things such as refinement, retainers or whitening gel.   It is well known that some dentists will try to cut corners to keep the price down. In some cases dentists do not provide the correct retainers or will prescribe the wrong form of treatment, ie. prescribing anterior treatment when full mouth treatment would...

I have seen 2 dentists and one suggested moving the back and front teeth, but the other just wanted to move the front teeth. How do I know who to believe?

Experience amoungst Invisalign dentists can vary. Again, my advice would be to see a third dentist for a consultation to give you some perspective and to enable you to make an informed decision based on the information provided.

Will I need to retain my teeth after they have been straightened?

Yes. Standard retention protocol for all orthodontics is: full time for 3-6 months; then night only for one year; then alternate nights for 6 months; then once a week overnight for life.

Can Invisalign treat slight overcrowding?

Invisalign is the perfect treatment for slight overcrowding. It is nearly invisible, painless and most cases are completed in under 12 months. Your best next step is to contact an experienced invisalign provider to arrange your initial consultation.

Do the aligners effect your speech?

If speech is affected at all by the aligners it will only be for the first few hours, after this your tongue will quickly adapt to the aligners being on your teeth and you will have no problems with speech.

How clear are the actual aligners?

When clients come for review appointments at my practice I still need to get within 3 inches of their smile to determine whether they have their aligners in or whether they have taken them out already. If you want to see for yourself how clear they are arrange a consultation with an experienced invisalign doctor and ask that they arrange your appointment before or after another invisalign patient. That way you can see for yourself and ask any questions from someone undergoing the treatment.

When I asked my dentist about retainers he told me just to wear the last set for 6 months. Is this normal?

No. The aligners are only designed for 2-3 weeks use and not for long term use as they will eventually loose their shape and may crack. Your dentist should provide you with proper retainers. Either fixed retainers or Invisaligns own Vivera retainers.
