I have been wearing invisalign for nearly 2 years but I have developed an allergy to them. The inside of my lips are swollen and have white patches and the end of my tongue feels as if it has been burnt and is covered with tiny white spots. Is there anything I can do to stop this ?

Hello Patricia,   I would be very suprised if you have developed an allergy to the aligners/retainers. It is more likey that you are deficient in minerals and/or vitamins or are generally run down. I would arrange a blood test with your doctor to determine if this is the case. It could also be that you are stressed and at night you are chewing the cheeks and the tongue is rubbing on the aligners.   I hope this helps.

I wanted to ask if I there is a possibility that a person’s teeth could be too over crowded that Invisalign wouldn’t work? My lateral incisor is behind my central incisor and my right cuspid, would be a tight squeeze to fit through. I also have all my wisdom teeth.

It is impossible to tell without seeing you in person. With the right compliance on behalf of the patient Invisalign can create space to correct even the most crowded of cases without necessarily having to remove teeth.

Hi how much does it hurt having Invisalign fitted? How qucikly do you get used to it? I had metal braces before and the first few weeks were agony. Thank you for your time

Hi there,   Compared to fixed braces Invisalign is much more comfortable in the early stages. I usually expect a degree of discomfort which lasts for 1-2 weeks but not what i would describe as actual pain. Certainly i’m sure you won’t experience anything like the agony of when you had your fixed braces fitted. I wish you the best with your treatment, Regards,   Graham

Hi i finished invisalign then 2 months ago i lost my retainer... i found it and since i lost it the gaps in my teeth have returned slightly... i can get my retainer back in but its painful... is it safe to do so or so I have to go back to braces? thanks

Hi Louise,   I would be tempted to wear the aligner now you have found it. It might be tight for few days but the gaps should close up. After that, go and see you Invisalign dentist and ask for them to make spare retainers so you don't have the same problem in the future!   Kind Regards   Graham

Dear Dr Tinkler, I've had traditional metal braces in the past and had four teeth removed in the process. My overbite, unfortunately, has returned due to my wisdom teeth coming through and pushing all my teeth forward. My dentist says I can not have invisalign and will need traditional braces again due to the fact that there is no space available to move the front teeth back. He said the traditional braces would also have to be attached to a small nail that will be placed at the back of my upper jaw. I would obviously much prefer to have invisalign as it is far less invasive and sounds much less painful, so I thought I would go for a second opinion on the matter. Thank you!

It is possible to correct overbite and overjet with Invisalign. Space can be achieved by moving the back teeth.   Obviously I would need to see you for a Complimentary Consulatation to be sure. A lot of my time is spent correcting 'relapse' cases where patients had braces when younger, but for whatever reason the teeth have slipped back.   Please feel free to book a complimentary consult so we can discuss your case in...

Hi there, There seems to be alot of dentists that provide Invisalign. How do I find the best Invisalign doctor for my case?

You can search for dentists in your area on the Invisalign website. www.invisalign.co.uk   Once you find potential dentists in your area, you might want to do a bit of online or word-of-mouth research before you contact them and schedule a consultation. This, along with a face-to-face meeting, is the best way to determine which dentist is the right match for your needs. Find out if they offer a free consultation....

I am not the pstient but have a genral query. If a patient has Invisalign (lite or normal), but the praticing dentist leaves the clinic mid treatment, would it be possible to sucessfully complete the treatment yourself if you possesed the alligners? Or is it a requirement to visit a dentist to check on progress?

It would depend on whether the Dentist had planned to carry out any adjustments to the teeth during the course of the treatment. Then there would be the issue of whether you needed any refinement and retainers at the end of the treatment.   One option is to do a case transfer to another Invisalign Dentist to finish the treatment.   I hope this help.   Graham

I would like to know the major difference between invisisble orthodontics and traditional orthodontics

Hello,   The major differences between Invisalign and traditioanl braces are one of aesthetics. Also, there are benefits of wearing Invisalign over traditional fixed braces such as ease of cleaning the teeth.ie. it is still possible to brush and floss between the teeth. The other big difference is that fixed braces are in there all the time and are working 24 hrs a day, whereas with Invisalign we rely on the patient to wear the aligners as much as possible,...

Q. hi, I was wondering whether invisalign would be a valid choice of brace for overbite sufferers. This came about as a child as I chewed on a dummy to much and it has now left me with overbitten , with goofy teeth. I would really like to get these sorted out as soon as possible and really like the idea of invisalign as they are just so unnoticeable and wouldn’t impede on my daily life but could potentially improve it afterwards. Any help you can give would be great thanks for your time.

A. Hi there! It would be best if you had a consultation with an Invisalign providing dentist to assess if you would be a suitable candidate as each individuals circumstances vary. From this you will be able to obtain a computerised treatment plan which will show you step by step what happens next, this will also help you visualise the result and realise the total treatment time. Thankyou, many regards.

Hi Dr Tinkler, I've just been recommended by an orthodontist who specialises in Invisalign and fixed braces, not to use Invisalign even though this is what I would prefer as he says my overbite will not be solved by this treatment and my two front teeth which have veneers on them will be adversely affected compared to using a fixed brace? Thanks, Laura

Hello Laura,   It is difficult for me to comment without seeing you. However, it is possible to reduce an overbite with Invisalign. The most important thing with Invisalign is compliance and making sure you wear them as much as possible. With fixed braces, obviously you cant take them out so they are working 24 hours a day.   Invisalign would fit over your veneers as if they are normal teeth.   Please...
